Eulogy
Today at camp, I banged my knee rather hard when I was running after the kids. It hurt like heck but I figured crying in front of them wasn't an option. So I had some candy instead. The fact remains that I can't bend my knee at all and probably should have an X-ray, but, Candy.
I have lost something today, and miss it more than I ever thought I would. Our car, which was almost totalled at the mosque some two weeks ago. It's been with our family for 12 years. So my dad decided we shouldn't repair it and just buy another car instead. So we did.
I mean, I grew up in that car. The bad and the good was all in that car. It's like a member of our family. It probably sounds pretty stupid, but I don't care.
Now that I think about it, the car reminds me of my dad: grey and worn at the edges, but the sturdiest thing I have ever seen.

Hey Asmaa,
Hope the knee's feeling better.
The car ah yes...it was tank among other cars.
I remember once passing by it in a smaller sedan and Man did I feel small. It was more like "Gosh!, that car could eat us up and won't even burp"
Then recently I got to sit & ride the car (don't you remember?!) and Boy I felt the adrenaline rushing in. If I was at the wheel we would have a Monster Truck Jam on the streets (going over those itty bitty cars around us)
Car... R.I.P.
salaam :)
hey hope ur knee gets better soon inshallah. i hope u didnt hit a funny bone.. do knees have funny bones? :o
the car is gone :(
Hey, it's okay to cry in front of kids. Then they know that grown-ups also get hurt and have feelings. Once I banged my head on a cabinet door so hard that I sat down on the floor and cried. My kids had lots of sympathy for me!
Sorry about your car. It's hard to give something up that you've had for an era.
Destiny,
Are you sure I was in the car at the time? Because I dont't recall that situation.
Honestly, you should go have your knee checked.
Probably more than three years ago, I had a freak sledding accident, which involved me smashing down on my tail bone. Fast forward to the present, and I still have bad pains if I don't sit a certain way.
Wow, don't you feel like these are such siginificant changes in our lives? (Anne of Green Gables sequal reference) But you feel like everything is changing around you and you just want to hold on to things that you think will stay the same. Maybe with your car it's a bad example, but I'm feeling that.
But yes, that car reminds me of your dad too. Whenever I see a car like it, I look in the window to see if it's your dad (in that hat).
assalam-u-alaikum :)
hope your knee gets better soon inshallah ...
i know it's embarassing to cry in front of people but sometimes, tears just come out despite efforts to control :( candy was a good option to calm you down :)
i'm sorry for your car, i felt that way when we moved out of our old home (where practically i had spent most of my childood)...sometimes, we just have to let go and move on, but the memories stay behind, quiet, peaceful memories to accompany us in solitude :)
Assalaamu Alaikum! :D
awwww I had a similar experience in the past :( It was the last car we owned before daddy decided to stick with vans. I miss it so much, I miss my cabbage patch sticker on the back window even more *sniff*
how's the knee? insha'Allah it's better now! and congrats on the new cousin, masha'Allah!!
Oops, nine comments already, I should have been here sooner. *very much ashamed*
As for the knee, you really kept your cool! If I were in your place, I'd become red old Mr. Wheeler (from Disney, if you remember?), collapse to the ground and yell for the medical staff. Or something like that.
And the chocolate would go into a hidden pocket for later. :)
And your car... oh, have you hit this nail on my head or what! I had to say g'bye to my 'childhood' car - a Mazda sedan - in 2000. That was awful, especially since we toured Jordan and Syria in that same old thing.
Soon, I'll have to say g'bye to our sturdy Mercedes station-wagon which I love, love, love...
The sorrow...
Goodluck with dealing with this squishy issue. :( I wonder what Spongebob would have done?
Yikes, that musta hurt. The knee AND the loss of the car.
Last year, in a rather dramatic moment, our trusty old van for years and years exploded and burst into flames in the middle of the street.. everyone was okay, but the thing burned itself out cuz the firefighters never came in time (they somehow ended up on another street in another part of town..lol). It was tough watching it go like that.
Anyway, don't worry, you'll get over it soon, iA :) Hope your knee gets better.
Wow, girl, you're really strong. I hope your knee's okay.
I'm going to miss that car too. I think the whole Islamic school crew will. It was trademark, it really was.
