Sad songs

4 of my favourites. I can't vouch for any of the videos though.

Hey just because the song is slow, doesn't mean it is sad.

Peter Gabriel only makes happiness.

Also, one of my favourite sad songs:
(don't mind the video)

Yeah, the Book of Love is more of a melancholy and nostalgia-type song. Still deserved to be in the top 4 :)

Ok, I just blew 20 minutes of my day out of impulsive curiosity. I'm going to have to do something about that.

Overall: excellent taste.

Fix You: What would make this sadder is remembering that you dived into a situation on the lyrics "if you never try, you'll never know" and only really hearing the rest of the lyrics after it all fell apart and "you're too in love to let it go".

Change for You: I hadn't heard of the Midway State before. Really like the song and the video. Made me so angry I wanted to set something on fire. [Note to RCMP/CSIS: metaphorically on fire. figuratively. trust me.]

The Book of Love: Priceless. This one makes me shiver it's so beautiful, but I have to agree it IS melancholy and nostalgic. When he sings "you *OUGHT* to give me wedding rings"--there's a hint of possibility there that the singer is and will forever be in love with somebody he cannot be with--the "ought" suggests the possibility that weddings rings were not or cannot be given between the lovers.

Be Quiet and Drive: THIS is the JEWEL of the bunch. Seriously. I LOVE it. This has been an anthem for years. Have to play it on loops while reading or when unable to do anything in particular. Also when driving.

Finis.

You have a most beautiful du'aa asking Allah to:

"that You make the Qur'an the life of my heart and the light of my breast, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety"

how can you join the love of the Quran and these songs in one heart.

RE: the anonymous (why so anonymous?) question/statement:

"how can you join the love of the Quran and these songs in one heart."

I hope Asmaa will excuse me for responding. I don't presume to speak for her but the question is one that is interesting to me and I feel compelled to respond.

Maybe it is true that a Muslim who loves the Qur'an ought to have a heart so full of it that there is no room for songs.

But perhaps a different question to ask than the one asked above is: should a human being who "loves"/likes songs NOT also love the Qur'an and listen to it as well?

A qari perhaps has no need of music but doesn't a musician/artist/any human being have need of listening to and loving the Qur'an?

A du`a doesn't indicate a state of being. It indicates a *need* for a state of being that one does not necessarily possess when offering the du`a.

Further: wasn't the Prophet (peace be upon him) the only perfect Muslim? If so, why would he say in a famous hadith "three things have been made beloved to me: women, perfume, and the delight of my eyes is in prayer".

Perhaps the heart is not so small that it cannot contain and love beauty and meaning that is found in God's creation as well as the pages of the mushaf.

Allahu a`lam.

Rizwan, thanks for replying so swiftly :) I agree with what you said in reply to anon. I'm glad you enjoyed the songs. I wasted 20 minutes of your life, the satisfaction is great :D

Anonymous, the premise of your argument is that sinners cannot ask of God.
