Don't let the bed bugs bite...

Okay so there is currently this monster bug in my room. It flies and it flies quickly...and it makes creepy noises. I am afraid. I am getting a couch in the living room ready for my immediate use.

Not quite sure how I'm going to deal with various flying insects and rodents in Egypt. Will probably die of heart attack while there. Good night.

EDIT: it came back last night and I had to sleep on the couch again. You people just don't understand. It was making really freaky noises...the first noise it was making sounded like a grocery bag being scrunched up. And then it was making whirring sounds. Like, wrrrrrrrr. I hate it!

Hahahaha!!

Well I don't want to scare you..
It's mosquito season. Egyptian Mosquitos are super smart.. not like the tiny Canadians. They're big, fat, can smell you a mile away, and they're smart. Don't ask me how they know which room is the bedroom. Or why they don't follow the light. Or why they insist on biting you at least 6 times on each leg before calling it a night.

Anyways. Sweet dreams :)

Shaykh Wikipedia suggests that you better take a lot of DEET with you (google it if you don't already use it). Wear DEET in conjunction with light coloured clothing and go to bed wearing your Jumu`ah salah clothes and you'll be laughing at those mosquitos.

Further, Shaykh Wikipedia draws your attention to the fact that Mosquitoes are poor fliers, flying only about 1-2 km/hr, and a good "repellent" is often an electric fan (and hand fan or the like--e.g. a paperback novel) as mosquitoes have trouble finding their targets and landing in moving air.

Godspeed.

Oh and I forgot to add that if they can track your scent, you should find and begin to wear a perfume that smells like one of their natural predators.

Then sleep victorius!

life is too short to worry about weird insects and mosquito bites

"is786lam," thank you for your reassuring words.

Rizwan, shaykh wikipedia, haha. hmmm natural predators, eh...where would I find perfume that smells like a fly-swatter? ;)

MT, yes but life could be shortened if you're stung/bitten by insects, no? Therefore, it is in your best interest to worry. Aha!

Egypt is where I remember seeing the humongous cockroaches. And my husband tells this story about being in Greece:
He was standing in his black cassock (he's a priest) and praying, and as he looked down he noticed something moving on his chest--it was one of those huge roaches! He jumped, and it skittered around to his back, where he couldn't reach it! So he was jumping around trying to get it off.

Sorry--I realize this is not reassuring.

Faraz, thank you :)

Elizabeth, oh my goodness! That's so scary. Roaches are probably the worst insects ever made. Yes, not very reassuring, but I'm arming myself for the worst.

Maybe it's a cicada...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cicadas

They're loud and huge and gross. Just a thought :)

I think you're right, Anonymous - it might just be a cicada... all Asmaa has to do now is find some birds or other predators to unleash on it now.

I remember when I went to Pakistan, esp at my Grandmother's house, there was always this baby rodent that would climb up the bed and sit right next to me. at first, it would really scare the heck out of me. but as months went on, I got pretty used to it.

you'll be fine lol
