You know sometimes I wonder how times have changed. Our moms have done & are doing so much for us, take up all their time for us, their main objective in life is what is best for their kids and to see them happy.

Nowadays ever wonder if when we all become parents would we do the same?
I see people busy thinking about their goals & careers in life, not that's bad or anything but being a mom is not important, not good enough and some even consider it as a lowly thing.
People just want to dump their kids in a day care so they can get 'personal time'. My mom would never even think of someone else takin care of her kids!

Its nice if both parents work, but I don't think we have to choose careers that effect raising our kids.

Can someone even call a person a mom if she just gives birth to a kid but is busy with her career and the nanny is the one who listens to the child, changes her diapers, teaches the kid everything?

Have we all become so selfish?
Godforbid I become someone like that

nice quote..

too bad you guys don't know urdu or i'd post the most amazing poem about the 'mother'...

Dil, word.

Anon 1, yes I wonder the same thing. Motherhood is a role in society that has lost its importance. But, man, being a mother is the best and most rewarding job ever. I agree, you can't deposit your kids at a daycare and come back for them at the end of the day and expect them to be these amazing Muslims.

Mothers are so honoured in Islam...it's foolish for people to call that role insignificant when really, it's one of the most important jobs. Man, how can women these days not want to be mothers? It's warped. SubhanAllah.

Anon 2, uhh I'll let Mars answer you since I don't know who T.C. is, and you're freaking me out. But, no, Egyptians don't usually stay with their in-laws.

Brother Biryani, you'd be surprised at how much Urdu I know. Post it.

Even the Egyptians know Urdu now?? lol j/k..

I blogged two, but this one is my favorite. The last part requires some background knowledge, but the rest is beautiful... No matter how many times I read it, it brings out at least a tear...

MAA

maut ki aagosh mein jab thak key soo jattiii hain maa
tab kahii jaakar sukoon thora sa paa jaati hain maaaa

fikar mein bachoo ki kuch istarah ghul jaati hain maa
no jawan hotey howey bhorii nazar aati hain maaa

eik hi hasraat ko apney azm-o-istaqlal sey
aansoo sey gusl dekar kudh hi dafnaati hain maa

aurhtii hain gurbatoo kaa khud yeh boseeda kafan
chahatoo ka perahan bachey ko pehnaatii hain maa

bhooka rehnay hi nahi deti yateemoo ko kabhi

baad mein jo kuch bacha who shauq sey kahti hain maa

Mangtiii bhi nahi apney liyey allah sey
Apney bachoo key liyey daman ko phelatii hain maa

Janey anjaney mein hojayey jo bachey sey kasoor
Eik anjaani saza key dukh sey tarhaaati hain maa

Daal kar bahey galey mein sar ko sehlatii hain maa

Qabr mein hotey howey bhi ashq barsatii hain maa

Baad mar jaaney key phir betay ki khidmat key liyey
Bhes betii ka badal kar ghar mein aaajati hain maaa

Door hojatii hain sari umr ki us dam thakan
Bihah karkey betay kaa jab ghar bahoo lati hain maa

Dekh letay hain nazar jis waqt betay aur bahoo
Ajnabi apney hi ghar mein haayey ban jaati hain maa

Pootii pootey sey shikastaaa dil ko behlatii hain maa

Rok kar jazbaat ko betay key gun gaati hain maa

Khat sey ya tasweer sey phir dil ko behlatiii hain maa

Apney seenay par rakhey hain qainat-e-zindaqiii
Yeh zameen is wastey hain dost kehlatii hain maa

Jaab koi saaya nahi miltaa tou yaad aaatii hain maa

Muflisi Bachey ki zid par jab utha letii hain haath
Jaisay mujrum ho koi istrhah sharmatii hain maa

Lot kar wapis safar sey jab bhi ghar aatey hain hum
Daal kar bhahey galey mein sar ko sehlatii hain maa

Rait par machlii ho jaisay aisay ghabratii hain maa

Mart-e-dam asaka bacha naa ghar par deir sey
Apni donoo kutliyay chokhat par rakh jaati hain maa

Apni pehloo mein lita kar aur totey ki tarah
Eik , bara paanch chodaa hum ko sikhlaati hain maa

Paar kehtey hain kissey aur mamta kia cheez hain
Koi un bachoo sey poochey jin mar jaati hain maa

Saaal bhar mein , ya kabhi , haftey mein jumaraat ko
Zindagi bhar ka silaa eik fatiha paa ti hain maaa

Martaba hoo maa ka zahir kis liyey firdoos sey
Apney bachoo key liyey poshaq mangwatii hain maa

Ghar sey jab pardes jaata hain koi noor-e-nazar
Hath mein quran lekar dar pey aajatii hain maa

Dekey bachey ko zamanat mein reza-e-paak ki
peechay peechay sur jukhayey door tak jaati hain maa

kaaptiii awaaz sey kehtii hain betaa alwidaaa
samnaa jab tak rahey hathooo ko lehratii hain maa

yaad aataa hain shab-e-aashoor ka karyal jawan
jab kabhii uljhiii howi zulfoo ko suljhatii hain maa

sub sey pehlay jaaan dena fatima(a.s) key laal par
raat bhar aun-o-mohamed ko yeh samjhatii hain maa

allah allah intehah dekh sabr-e- laila aur husain (a.s)
baap ney khainchii sina , seeney ko sehlatii hain maa

yeh bata saktii hain humko bus rubab(a.s)-e-khasta tan
kis tarah bin doodh key bachay ko behlaati hain maaa

shimr key kanjar sey yaa sookhey galey sey poochiyey
maa idhar sey nikaltaa hain udhar aaati hain maaa

jab talak hain yeh hath hain hamsheer be parda na hoon
eik madar bawafa betay sey farmatii hain maaa

aisa lagta hain kissi maqtal sey ab bhi waqt-e-asr
ek buridaa sar sey zyada pyasaaa hoon sada aati hain maa

no jawan beta agar dam tor dein aagosh mein
zindaqii bhar sur ko diwaroo sey takraatii hain maa

lash par betay key parhtii hain jawanii marsiaaa
shukr ka sajda us aalim mein baja laati hain maa

dei kar apney laal ko islam ki aaagosh mein
good khalii phir so-e-jaanat palat jaati hain maa

fatima(a.s) key laal par qurbaaan karney key liyey
baandh kar sehra jawan betay ko samjhatii hain maa

apney gam ko bhool kar rotey hain jo shabbir(a.s) ko
unkey askhoo key liyey jaanat sey aajatii hain maaa

Hmm, I think it's trying to say the "Baa" word. ; )

Asm, will miss ya loads.

Asmaa said...

Brother Biryani, okay I didn't actually understand anything except "MAA" :)

Anon, thanks for sharing that, it was really cute.

Olde, it was trying to find a substitute for the "baa" word, but it couldn't ;) Sheikh, I will miss you more. May Allah (swt) make your journey easy and rewarding.

Mars, its not a male prospective. I totally agree everyone needs personal time if the person is a mom or dad but as I added on in my comment do you think personal time is not being there when your kids need to talk to you? is personal time leaving your kids with the grandparents or relatives and go off to some exotic vacation?

I have heard both women and men brag on becoming doctors or similar time consuming professions. They want to go to the ends of the world to help the poor people of the world and forget that their own child needs them too.

This is excellent but don't forget or give up your family for such worldy goals.

It does sound I'm trying to say stay at home & only be a mom, but that's not true. Both parents should work, a wife will go psycho staying at home 24/7!

However a wife is more closer and is influential in a kid's life (refer to a hadith saying this) so I think a wife should know when to say "my child needs me more than my job"

Even dads should also follow this but its a fact of life no matter what a dad will do for his family the mother is more closer to the child.

The take home msg. I'm trying to say
we all have to balance our family and career but the responsibilities one has towards her family, be it kids or parents is far greater than any career.

Hey, is someone travelling? do pray for us all while travelling!

summed it up beautifully in just one sentence.

*NOTE: I want to know who all these anonymous people are. You know, it's really not bad when random anonymous people comment in a general manner. But it gets really annoying when the person knows who I am, and I apparently might know who they are and yet they don't want to reveal themselves for some reason. It's cowardly, it really is. And not to mention immodest. SubhanAllah, get a backbone.

Squeeky, Ameen ya Rabb al-'Alameen.

Umar, indeed :)

mars,

how could you say that about my poem?? :'(

And I agree about the anonymous people being cowardly. I'm not too sure how it's immodest, but cowardly for sure.
