CAIRO -- A 25-year-old Egyptian man cut off his own penis to spite his family after he was refused permission to marry a girl from a lower class family, police reported Sunday.
After unsuccessfully petitioning his father for two years to marry the girl, the man heated up a knife and sliced off his reproductive organ, said a police official.
The man was rushed to the hospital but doctors were unable to reattach the severed member.
No comments of mine will come close to elucidating this story, so I shall refrain.

that guy is retarded, sorry I had to say it.
O.O
wow...shocked!
but i thought egypt was much more liberal than having fixed marriages etc.?
Unless I am wrong, cuz all my egptian friends don't vibe well with fixed marriages with extended family members...
@Anonymous - Egypt is not a person, and as such, does not have a single view on fixed marriages.
But generally about the story: sometimes when you prevent people from doing things they should be able to control, they end up doing things they actually can control.
Because it now seems silly to have prevented this dude from marrying someone from a "lower class", he no longer has a penis. Kinda puts things into perspective. Kinda.
If the spirit of this man pervades the entire upper class men community then there will be no penis left! That would be a creul path to socialism!
The question is not penis here! The organ is only a symbol of the larger conflict between two different classes. It is better if the comments here spare the organ and talk more about the conflict between the classes.
Sara, temporary insanity.
Anon #1, o.O right back at you...?
Anon #2, see Adnan's response your your query.
Adnan, you make a valid point about control. When faced with situations of they can't control, people will sometimes exercise their abilities to an extreme with the things they can control. That's also an argument for eating disorders.
Anon #3, hah! Don't count on it my friend.
Anon #4, I don't know what happens next. I can guess though: the man lives his life as a rich upper class miserable hermit. The woman marries a guy from her own social class and has numerous babies. Not a very glamourous ending, but such is life.
And would it really have made more sense for him to dismember his father instead? Maybe in a twisted way, but violence is not the answer. AND on an unrelated note, men don't require their parents' approval to marry. So...the guy could have exercised other options. But anyways.
Anon #5, agreed. But it was such a sensational self-harming reaction on his part to class inequality; we can't help but comment on the act!
too many anonymous people! Gawd, just make up a name.
Egyptians...
