Best proposal scene ever
This is from Pride and Prejudice (the older version, not the one currently in theatres). The fact that Mr. Darcy gets rejected by Elizabeth after this proposal of his makes it all the better:
"In vain I have struggled. It will not do! My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. In declaring myself thus I'm aware that I will be going expressly against the wishes of my family, my friends, and, I hardly need add, my own better judgement. The relative situation of our families makes any alliance between us a reprehensible connection. As a rational man I cannot but regard it as such myself, but it cannot be helped. Almost from the earliest moments, I have come to feel for you...a passionate admiration and regard, which despite my struggles, has overcome every rational objection. I beg you, most fervently, to relieve my suffering and consent to be my wife."
Mr. Darcy has to be the coolest. Stop trying to make a connection between this quote and myself and the objective of this blog. It's not going to work.

what was his reaction after he was rejected?
Oh man, Asmaa.
I don't even have to comment about this proposal or Mr. Darcy at all. You know. YOU KNOW!
ps. if you don't: everything about this movie (ONLY THIS VERSION!)is too awesome.
Umm Sara, I have this urge to watch the movie again, even though I just watched it this past Sunday :S
What was his reaction? I thought you'd never ask.
At length, with a voice of forced calmness, he said: "And this is all the reply which I am to have the honour of expecting! I might, perhaps, wish to be informed why, with so little endeavour at civility, I am thus rejected. But it is of small importance."
"I might as well inquire," replied she, "why with so evident a desire of offending and insulting me, you chose to tell me that you liked me against your will, against your reason, and even against your character? Was not this some excuse for incivility, if I was uncivil? But I have other provocations. You know I have. Had not my feelings decided against you— had they been indifferent, or had they even been favourable, do you think that any consideration would tempt me to accept the man who has been the means of ruining, perhaps for ever, the happiness of a most beloved sister?"
Any more, and I'll be getting into the plot.
no, please, stop.
thanks.
Assalamu aleikum,
Which version? You mean the Colin Firth-BBC-Miniseries version of course.
There was a previous version and I don't think it was as good (though I haven't seen it). And I certainly don't think the new version will be as good.
OMG Asmaa. Do you own it or something? Because I AM ALWAYS up to watching it. Whenever - day or night. My friend has it, I'm going to borrow it and invite you over and we'll have a party. A SUPER awesome party.
Umm, Sara. Yes, of course I'm up to watching it! We can forward all the parts that don't have Mr. Darcy in them.
Yes, my sentiments exactly. A scene without Darcy is a waste of life, except of course scenes with Mr. Bingley in them. Sigh ... Mr. Bingley.
I'll ask my friend for it and we'll definitely watch it at my house.
... and giggle the night away!
ps. Did I ever tell you that I met Colin Firth and shook his hand?
Which basically means I'm awesome.
Sara, I'd very much like to shake your hand in that case. I can't wait for our Colin Firth night. Heh.
Ahy, you're just jealous.
Hahahah! Yeah, I can't wait either. Though it's going to be bad Asmaa. So intensely bad, like all of those links of pictures I was sending you. I don't know if I can handle all of it in my old age.
Oh wait, we'll be the same old age soon enough - maybe it'll be okay. Just deep breaths and lots of water.
Assalaamu Alaikum :)
awww *faint*
Now I wanna see it again ... thanks a lot Asmaa!
asmaa, you've reached an all time level of weirdness.
Why is this considered weird? It's pretty much the coolest and most interesting thing ever. You are the most cool and interesting person, Asmaa. And have reached an all time level of cool and interesting.
heh.
sacrilege!! how can anyone NOT have read the perfection that is pride&prejudice?!?! asmaa i reckon u shud take a baseball bat to the heads of the illiterates among here.
i love darcy, from his diffident mannerisms down to biting social commentary! austen was a genius.
the bbc version was and is the only one upto scratch - kiera knightly and the-guy-too-ugly-to-name are paltry offerings in comparison - she just pouts and giggles, he doesnt have the screen presence and respect old darcy commands, and the costumes & timing are all Wrong.
ok, im done ranting!
Pink Pistol, OMG, join the club. Ahy, I don't care if I'm a nerd - that's a compliment, remember? :D
LLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLL
