Did you know that the MSA at U of T has existed for 40 years? Yep, since 1966. Interesting, since we've had Jummah prayers at Hart House since then, but women have only been allowed in Hart House starting 1972 (stolen fact).
So, on Friday we had an exhibit of some of MSA's stuff over the past 40 years (old constitutions, Muslim Voice magazines, and the like). I'm just going to post the best part of the exhibit (past TMV magazine covers)

Those are my favourite covers out of all of them: just so much sophistication and beauty. Whoever was the editor that year definitely had good taste. Ahem, anyways - we had a classy dinner in the evening and here's the food: Yes, the food.

Umm, interesting food (besides the fact that I kept dropping pieces of my salad on the dirty floor and I was forced to pick them up, wipe them off, and eat them - lest
someone else do so). And yet, throughout the dinner, all I could think was "where is the naan and channa masala?"

I agree that the chocolate cake looks nasty... what's that dripping out of it - oil? Must be an Indian cake or something... probably has some masala on it too.

Nauman, okay, we got the catering from this upscale U of T caterer - it was white food, no masala in sight. Just a wad of Parmesan
which made me kind of want to gag.

i guess i'm late in posting this, but i also feel obligated to say that the cake looks like its oozing raw chicken shorba (just the oil).
and a guy first told me about the 5 second rule, so yeah.

Advice to myself first: it's best not to make fun of food...any food, despite it's off-putting appearance (cf. chocolate cake). Just part of respecting food...wallahu A'lam. : )
Asmaa - those TMV covers certainly were awesome; total agreement. I must say I was disappointed in the covers this year...though there was good content, alhamdulillah.
MSA certainly seems to throw plenty of dinners, "da'wah", and fundraising events. Where have all the lectures gone?

And I tell my brother all the time that if you drop some food, it really is okay to pick it up and eat it haha Unless ... it fell in mud :S
Yikes I wouldn't pick it up from just anywhere, at least not where people's shoes have been, that's just dirty :S I would think the carpet would be cleaner
